CARNIVAL DRINKS
During a whole week
before Lent, 160 million
Brazilians party all over the country. This is
the carnival! People dance samba, jump, sing,
eat and drink some of the best tropical
recipes in the world. Tourists that visit
Brazil fall in love the traditional
carnival drinks "batida". You can
try the caipirinha,
passion fruit batida, and one of the most
famous: the capeta batida.
Batidas are easy to
prepare. You can add as much liquor you
want. You can even make it alcohol
free!. Carnival batidas are good not only
during the summer, but also for those chilly
nights of winter.
Carnival batidas
can be prepared with any fruit available.
The basic "formula" includes at least one fruit,
an alcoholic liquor, dairy beverage, sugar and
ice.
INGREDIENTS:
Carnival batidas
are made of fresh tropical fruits, fruit
juices and purees, sweetened condensed milk,
peanut butter, Nesquik,
coconut milk, ice
cream syrups in any flavor. Gaseous
drinks and sparkling water are used to make
batidas smooth.
Alcoholic batidas,
are made with the traditional
Brazilian sugar cane liquor "cachaça". You also
can use champagne or wines for more
delicate carnival batidas.
BARWARE:
It is important to
have the necessary tools on hand. To make a
carnival batida you will use a knife, ice
crusher, electric blender, a
3-inch food
strainer, a cocktail shaker, a pitcher. And your
creativity to decorate.
